Hot Bench Season 4 Episode 5 Fight Over Baby's Funeral Expenses; You're Not Even Cute!

  • September 13, 2017

In this episode of Hot Bench, a couple is in court facing off after the death of their child. The mother claims that the father did not contribute to the funeral expenses, while the father argues that he was not allowed to be involved in the planning of the funeral. The Hot Bench judges, Judge Tanya Acker, Judge Patricia DiMango, and Judge Michael Corriero, listen to both sides and try to come to a fair decision.

The mother explains that she was left to cover all of the expenses for the child's funeral, including the cost of the casket and the burial plot. She claims that even though the father was initially involved in the planning, he eventually stopped responding to her calls and texts when it came to contributing financially. She says that she had to borrow money from her family and friends, and that it was a huge burden on her during such a difficult time.

The father, on the other hand, argues that he was excluded from the planning process and was not given a say in the funeral arrangements. He claims that the mother did not communicate with him about the expenses and that he did not know he was expected to contribute until after the fact. He also argues that the mother was not willing to negotiate on the cost of the funeral, and that he was not willing to simply hand over a blank check.

As the judges begin to question both parties, they discover that there may be more at play than just the issue of funeral expenses. The mother accuses the father of being emotionally abusive and controlling, while the father makes comments about the mother's appearance. At one point, he even tells her "you're not even cute."

Judge Acker, Judge DiMango, and Judge Corriero are quick to shut down any attempts to turn the hearing into a personal attack. They remind both parties that they are there to discuss the issue at hand and that any disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated. However, the tension between the couple is palpable throughout the hearing, and it becomes clear that there are deep-rooted issues at play.

Ultimately, the judges must decide who is responsible for the funeral expenses and how much each party should contribute. However, as they consider their decision, they also encourage the couple to seek counseling and find a way to work through their personal issues. The death of a child is a devastating event, and it's clear that both parties are still struggling to cope with their loss. The judges hope that by finding a way to resolve this issue, the couple can begin to heal and move forward.
