As drug overdose deaths continue to rise across the country, Intervention returns for its 21st season to confront the opioid crisis head-on. In the season premiere episode titled "The Heroin Hub: Chapter 1", viewers are introduced to the city of Philadelphia and its infamous intersection of Kensington and Allegheny, known as the "epicenter of the opioid epidemic."

The episode follows the stories of four individuals who are struggling with addiction to heroin and fentanyl, which has become increasingly common due to its potency. The first subject is 32-year-old Heather, a single mother who turned to drugs after suffering from the trauma of being assaulted. Heather's addiction has led her to lose custody of her child and struggle to maintain stable employment.

The second subject is 26-year-old Tucker, who began experimenting with drugs at a young age and eventually moved to Philadelphia to be closer to his dealer. Tucker's addiction has caused him to become homeless and rely on panhandling to fund his habit.

The third subject is 20-year-old Jon, who became addicted to painkillers after being prescribed them for a sports injury. Jon's addiction eventually led him to switch to heroin, which he injects regularly.

The fourth subject is 27-year-old Alana, who started using drugs as a way to cope with her mental health issues. Alana's addiction has caused her to become estranged from her family and put her in dangerous situations, such as being assaulted by other drug users.

Throughout the episode, family and friends of the subjects share their concerns about their loved one's health and safety. A professional interventionist is brought in to meet with each subject and their family in an attempt to persuade them to seek treatment.

"The Heroin Hub: Chapter 1" sheds light on the devastating impact of the opioid epidemic, not only on the individuals struggling with addiction but also on their families and communities. Viewers are given an up-close look at the daily struggles and dangers that come with addiction in one of the hardest-hit cities in the United States.

Overall, the season premiere of Intervention is a heart-wrenching and eye-opening watch that highlights the urgent need for more resources and intervention programs to combat the epidemic.
