After numerous requests from couples seeking help, Iyanla is back with a new season of "Iyanla: Fix My Life." The first episode, "Marriage in Crisis: Part 1," follows the journey of two couples whose marriages are on the rocks.
The first couple, Carla and Markus, have been together for 13 years and have two children. Carla claims that Markus is emotionally abusive and controlling, and that she feels trapped in the relationship. Markus denies these claims and says that Carla is not willing to compromise or communicate effectively. Iyanla sits down with the couple individually to get a better sense of their perspectives before bringing them together to try and work through their issues.
The second couple is Samantha and Jerome, who have been together for six years and are engaged to be married. But recently, they have been experiencing a lot of problems, including infidelity and trust issues. Samantha has cheated on Jerome multiple times and he is struggling to forgive her. Iyanla meets with Samantha and Jerome together to discuss their issues and explore the root causes of their problems.
Throughout the episode, Iyanla works with each couple to help them become more self-aware and communicate effectively with one another. She encourages them to be honest and open, and to listen to each other's perspectives without interrupting. Iyanla also helps them to identify patterns in their behavior and communication that may be contributing to their problems, and offers tools and exercises to help them change these patterns.
By the end of the episode, the couples have made some progress, but there is still a lot of work to be done. Iyanla sends them home with assignments to continue to work on their issues, and promises to meet with them again in a few weeks to see how they are doing.
Overall, "Marriage in Crisis: Part 1" is a powerful and emotional episode that provides insight into the challenges that many couples face in their relationships. Through her compassionate and insightful coaching, Iyanla offers hope and guidance to couples who are struggling to find their way back to love and connection.
