Jumong is a historical drama series that tells the story of the life of Jumong, the founder of the Goguryeo Kingdom. Season 1 episode 1, titled Jumong 1, kicks off with a gripping opening scene that introduces the viewers to an intense skirmish between the armies of Gojoseon and Han. The Gojoseon army is led by General Geumwa, who fights valiantly to protect their land from the invading Han army. During the battle, Geumwa's wife, Yuhwa, goes into labor and is rescued by Lady Hyegyeong, who helps her deliver a healthy baby boy. It is revealed that the child is the son of General Geumwa and Lady Yuhwa, and they name him Jumong.

As Jumong grows up, he is trained in combat and martial arts by his father, Geumwa. Jumong also becomes good friends with Soseono, the daughter of Lady Hyegyeong, and together they get into various mischief and adventures. However, Lady Yuhwa and her second son, Daeso, resent Jumong, feeling that he is a threat to their own power and position. As a result, they constantly try to undermine Jumong and his relationship with his father, Geumwa. This causes tension and divides the family, leading to Jumong being banished from the kingdom.

Jumong's banishment leads him to venture into unknown territories where he encounters different tribes and cultures. He is eventually taken captive by a group of slave traders and is sold to a young woman named So Seo-no. Jumong is initially wary of her, but he soon realizes that she is kind and intelligent. The two share a budding relationship, which is tested when they get caught up in a dispute between two rival villages.
