As the traveler named Kino continues on her journey, she encounters a woman named Shishou who takes her in as an apprentice. Shishou teaches Kino various survival skills as well as how to shoot a gun, which is an essential tool for travelers in her world. Throughout the episode, we see glimpses of Kino's past and how she became interested in traveling, as well as her relationship with her former master. As Kino learns from Shishou, she discovers that the woman is burdened with a tragic past. Despite this, Shishou remains determined to pass on her knowledge to Kino so that she can continue traveling on her own. The two women bond over their shared interest in exploring the world and their experiences as travelers. In one particularly poignant scene, Shishou shares with Kino her belief that all travelers eventually meet their end while out on the road. As the episode progresses, Kino is forced to make a difficult decision regarding her apprenticeship with Shishou. She realizes that she must move on from her time with the older woman, both because it is time for her to continue her own journey and because of personal reasons related to Shishou's past. The episode ends with Kino saying goodbye to her mentor and setting off once again into the unknown. Overall, "Her Journey" is a moving and introspective episode that explores the bonds between travelers and the lessons that can be learned from their experiences. It highlights the importance of mentorship and the importance of knowing when to move on from those who have guided us in the past.
