The film entitled Lights and Shadows is centered on the life of Kang Ki-Tae. Kang works at a movie theatre owned by his father. His father is well known as he is the wealthiest man in Soonyang and he owns many businesses. Kang is however not interested in working, he prefers to have fun and idle around with his friends. As a result of his unruly behavior he always get into trouble with his father. One day his father discovers some money is missing from the company accounts and Kang admits to him that he used the money to invest in a movie. Jang Chul-Hwan is a well known politician in the area. He asks to have a meeting with Kang's father. Although he is reluctant to meet him, Kang's father finally agrees to do so. They meet in the politician's office where he asks Kang's father for an endowment but he refuses. Kang leaves for Seoul alongside one of his aids to find out information about the movie he invested in and also have fun since he is away from his father. Kang goes to a nightclub on his first night where he comes across Myung Yee who is his kid sister. Kang and his aid are devastated to learn that the movie he had invested in, is not existing. He had been duped. Kang is not even able to find Yang Tae-Sung whom he paid to help him develop the film so they leave without accomplishing their mission. Soo-Hyuk is a young man whose mother works as a maidservant in Kang's house. Soo-Hyuk used to work as an army but has been relieved of his duties so he comes back home to Soonyang. Soo-Hyuk is well educated but due to his poor background he lacks self confidence. Jang offers Soo-Hyuk a job which he accepts. Kang is sent away from home by his father and he sets out with his aid in search of Yang. They find yang but he has spent all the money already.
