Joining Pete on his culinary journey is renowned chef, George Mendes. Born and raised in Lisbon, George takes Pete to some of his favorite off-the-beaten-path eateries, where they try some of the city's most authentic and delicious dishes.

Their first stop is at a local market, where they sample fresh oysters and sea urchin. George explains the importance of fresh seafood in Lisbon's cuisine and shows Pete how to properly shuck an oyster. They then head to a nearby restaurant where they try a traditional seafood stew, packed with mussels, clams, and octopus. Pete is blown away by the depth of flavor in the dish and the quality of the ingredients.

Next, they venture through Lisbon's cobbled streets and admire the beautiful tile work on the buildings. George takes Pete to one of his favorite cafes, where they enjoy some of Portugal's famous pastries, including the custard-filled pastel de nata.

For lunch, they head to a restaurant known for its bacalhau, a salt cod dish that is a staple in Portuguese cuisine. They watch as the chef expertly prepares the dish, which is served with potatoes and a flavorful onion jam. Pete and George both agree that the dish is a perfect representation of Lisbon's food scene.

Later, they visit a local winery and sample some of Portugal's finest wines. The winemaker explains the unique climate and soil that make Portugal's wines so exceptional. With their glasses in hand, Pete and George share a toast to the wonderful food and wine they have experienced in Lisbon.

To end the day, they head to a traditional fado restaurant, where beautiful music and soulful singing fill the air. While enjoying the music, they indulge in one last delicious meal: grilled sardines, served simply with olive oil and lemon.
