In season 1 episode 5 of Odd Mom Out, titled "Brooklandia," Jill Weber (played by creator and star Jill Kargman) is invited to perform a storytelling event at a coffee shop in a trendy Brooklyn neighborhood dubbed "Brooklandia." She's hesitant at first, believing the neighborhood's trendy, hipster residents might look down on her Upper East Side lifestyle. Despite her reservations, Jill ultimately agrees to do the event.

Meanwhile, Jill's sister-in-law, Brooke Von Weber (Abby Elliott), helps her daughter, Hazel (guest star Izzy Hanson-Johnston), launch a homemade jewelry business. The pieces are entirely unique and made from repurposed household items, which Brooke believes will resonate with the Brooklandia crowd.

As Jill prepares for her storytelling performance, she becomes increasingly anxious about blending in with the Brooklyn crowd. Her husband, Andy (Andy Buckley), and his assistant, Lex (Sean Kleier), try to help her out by gathering some Brooklyn-centric stories from their acquaintances. However, Jill finds the stories somewhat contrived and struggles to relate them to her own life.

Things come to a head when Jill arrives at the coffee shop to find that her storytelling event has been moved to a different day. The barista tells her that the space was double-booked, and the other event was deemed more fitting for the shop's vibe. Feeling frustrated and out of place, Jill decides to confront the organizer of the other event, who happens to be a Brooklandia resident and a very successful author.

The author, Leslie (Debra Monk), takes an interest in Jill and her Upper East Side lifestyle, and the two women strike up an unlikely friendship. While Leslie is initially condescending towards Jill's privileged lifestyle, they find common ground in their shared struggles as mothers, and Leslie even invites Jill to a Brooklyn-wide charity event.

Meanwhile, Brooke is pleased with the success of their daughter's homemade jewelry business, but things take a turn when their handmade pieces are criticized for being too commercial and out of touch with the DIY, anti-corporate ethos of the Brooklyn scene.

In the end, both Jill and Brooke learn valuable lessons about the perils of trying to fit in with a certain crowd. For Jill, it's about realizing that she doesn't need to drastically alter who she is to fit in with a different group of people, and for Brooke, it's about understanding that her daughter's unique creations are valuable in their own right and don't need to conform to a certain aesthetic.

Overall, "Brooklandia" is a charming and humorous episode that explores themes of identity, authenticity, and the pressures of societal expectations. The show's signature wit and sharp satire are on full display, as Jill navigates the tricky waters of Brooklyn hipster culture with her trademark self-deprecating humor and razor-sharp observations.
