Ep 1. You Don't Miss Your Water

In the first episode of the thrilling and dark television series Quarry, entitled "You Don't Miss Your Water," we are introduced to our protagonist, Mac Conway, played brilliantly by Logan Marshall-Green. When they return from Vietnam, they are shunned by most people in their community and find it difficult to get jobs. Mac is haunted by his memories and is struggling to adjust to civilian life. Joni is also struggling, as she is a very independent woman who wants more out of life than being a housewife.

The plot thickens when a mysterious man named The Broker (Peter Mullan) approaches Mac and offers him a lucrative job as a hitman. Mac is initially hesitant, but after he is beaten up by some men who are angry at him for serving in Vietnam, he decides to take the job. Mac quickly realizes that working for The Broker is not going to be easy, as he is required to kill people who have not done anything to him personally. The stakes are high, as Mac is being watched by the police, who suspect him of some recent murders.

Meanwhile, Joni is trying to find her own path in life and has taken a job in a bar. She meets a man named Daniel (Josh Randall), who seems to be genuinely interested in her and offers to take her on a date. Joni is hesitant at first, but she decides to give him a chance and they spend a wonderful evening together. Little does she know that the man she is falling for is actually an undercover police officer who is investigating Mac's activities. When Mac finds out that Joni went on a date with Daniel, he becomes furious and accuses her of being unfaithful.

As the episode progresses, we see Mac struggling to keep up with the demands of his job, which involves killing innocent people and covering up crimes. He becomes increasingly disillusioned with The Broker and with himself for taking this path in life. The tension builds to a dramatic climax when Mac is forced to confront one of his victims' fathers, who is seeking revenge for his son's death. Mac is wounded in the confrontation and loses consciousness, leading us to wonder what will happen next.

Overall, "You Don't Miss Your Water" is a gripping and intense episode that sets the stage for the rest of the series. It introduces us to complex and well-drawn characters who are struggling to find their place in a world that has betrayed them.
