Shurei Hong, the protagonist of Saiunkoku Monogatari, continues her journey in episode 2 of season 1. In the midst of working, she meets Eigetsu To, a young man who is also interested in ancient literature and texts.

Shurei quickly forms a bond with Ensei, who tells her about the struggles faced by the people of Sa Province. The people there are poor and suffer from famine and other hardships. Ensei tells Shurei that he and Eigetsu have come to the Imperial Palace to try and change things for the better, but he also reveals that there are others who do not share their vision. It becomes clear that there are people at the Palace who are threatened by the arrival of the scholars from Sa Province.

As Shurei gets to know Eigetsu and Ensei better, she also becomes more aware of the political landscape of the country. She learns about the different factions vying for power and the delicate balance of alliances and rivalries that keep the country from falling into chaos. Shurei realizes that her work as a librarian is not just about cataloging texts but also about understanding the power dynamics of the Imperial Palace and the country as a whole.

Despite the challenges she faces, Shurei remains determined to help Eigetsu and Ensei achieve their goals for Sa Province. She discovers that the key to success lies not just in knowledge and intelligence, but also in the ability to navigate complex social and political relationships. As she gets more involved in the world of politics, Shurei also begins to learn more about her own family history and the role her father played in the country's past.

The episode ends on a cliffhanger as Shurei and Eigetsu discover a plot to assassinate the Emperor. The two must work together to catch the would-be assassin before it's too late. The tension and intrigue of the episode leave the audience wanting more and wondering what will happen next.
