Re-Kan! is an anime series from Sentai Filmworks that aired in 2015. It features a unique premise where a high school girl, Hibiki Amami, can see ghosts and has the ability to communicate with them. The show follows her daily life as she interacts with these specters and tries to help them with their unfinished business.

Despite the fact that Hibiki can see ghosts, she leads a fairly normal life. She goes to school and hangs out with her friends, who are a diverse group of individuals. Her best friend, Narumi Inoue, is an exorcist who often helps her deal with the more troublesome spirits. The rest of her classmates are a mix of personalities, from the shy and quiet Kana Uehara to the boisterous and carefree Makoto Ogawa.

Throughout the series, Hibiki encounters a variety of ghosts, each with their own story and personality. Some of them are friendly and just need someone to talk to, while others are angry or upset and require Hibiki to help them calm down. Occasionally, she also runs into malevolent spirits that need to be exorcised, usually with the help of Narumi.

While the show is primarily a comedy, it does touch on some more serious themes. For instance, several episodes deal with the concept of loss and how it affects people. Hibiki herself lost her mother at a young age, and this is a recurring theme throughout the series. Other characters also have their own struggles with loss and grief, and these moments offer a poignant counterpoint to the more lighthearted moments of the show.

Another aspect of Re-Kan! that sets it apart is its use of Japanese folklore and mythology. Many of the ghosts Hibiki encounters are based on traditional Japanese monsters, such as kappa or yuki-onna. The show also incorporates elements of Shintoism, such as the use of ofuda (paper talismans) to ward off evil spirits. This attention to detail and cultural heritage makes Re-Kan! a unique and fascinating viewing experience.

The animation in the show is bright and colorful, with character designs that are distinctive and expressive. The backgrounds are also well-drawn, with a lot of attention paid to detail. The show's music is upbeat and catchy, with a lively opening theme song and some memorable background tracks.

Overall, Re-Kan! is a delightful series that balances comedy and drama in a unique and interesting way. Its exploration of Japanese folklore and mythology adds an extra layer of depth to the story, while its focus on empathy and understanding makes it a heartwarming and uplifting viewing experience. Fans of slice-of-life anime and supernatural stories alike will find much to enjoy in this charming series.
