Shattered Angels is a Japanese manga conceptualized by Kaishaku. It initially came to being in the form of a serialization in a Japanese manga magazine known as the Monthly Dragon Age. It was then adapted as an anime series with the first show airing in January of 2007. There are a lot of references to Kaishaku's other works throughout the series. The show draws from works such as Kannazuki no Miko, UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie and Steel Angel Kurumi. The main character around whom the show revolves, is Ku Shirator. By all outward appearances, Ku Shirator is a normal high school student who goes about her mundane existence in the city of Academia. This character experiences a series of recurring dreams in which she meets a prince who asks her to go away with him. Reality and fantasy merge when, one day, the prince appears during the preparations for an upcoming festival. Upon his appearance, the prince, who goes by the name Kyoshiro Ayanokoji, asks her to go away with him just as he had in her dreams. The series combines both new and familiar elements and a predominant number of the show's characters seem to be romantically involved with each other. Ku is frequently in a state of bewilderment as to the nature of these relationships. Viewers of the show are subjected to a lot of kissing. This is due to the fact that the superhuman Absolute Angels draw their sustenance from humans by kissing them. This theme is borrowed from Kaishaku's Steel Angel Kurumi. In addition to Ku, another one of the main characters in the show is Kyoshiro Ayanok?ji, who is portrayed as a gentleman of refined character prone to playing the violin when in deep thought. Setsuna, also known as Setsuna of the Moment of Dreams, also makes an appearance as Kyoshiro's sidekick. There is some contention between Setsuna and Ku due to the closeness that develops between Ku and Kyoshiro. The other prominent characters in the show include Mika Ayanok?ji, the ruler of the witch academy, Himiko who is one of Mika's many love interests and Kaon of the Lunar Spiral, Himiko's protector.
