Suzuka is a Japanese mature anime series that features some nudity and is based on a manga publication of the same name. The characters in Suzuka were created by the writer and illustrator of the manga Kouji Seo and tell a romantic story of the competitors of a high school track and field team. The 26-episode anime series was directed by Hiroshi Fukutomi for Studio Comet; the series was first broadcast on TV Tokyo in 2005 and followed the plot of the manga very closely. Suzuka is a romantic comedy anime series with some episodes focusing on the sporting activities of the high school track and field team featured in the series. The series opens with the character of Yamato Akitsuki moving to a high school dorm run by his aunt in the city of Tokyo from his home in the rural town of Hiroshima. On his first day in Tokyo Yamato meets Suzuka Asashina, a girl who lives in the dorm run by his aunt attending the high school on a scholarship gained through her high-jumping skills. Yamato decides he has fallen in love with Suzuka at first sight and sees similarities in their lives as she is from a smaller, rural town and moved to Tokyo to improve herself. Upon arriving in Tokyo Yamato is shocked to find his childhood friend, Yashumodo has followed him to Tokyo and joins him living in the girls' dorm run by Yamato's aunt. In an attempt to impress Suzuka, Yamato tries out for the track and field team shocking everybody by sprinting faster than the team member awarded a scholarship for his sprinting abilities. Yamato joins the track team in an attempt to impress Suzuka, but finds his attempts at beginning a relationship rebuffed by Suzuka. Yamato continues to pursue Suzuka and finds she visits the grave of a former boyfriend and uses this as an excuse not to begin a relationship with Yamato.
