Jim Rockford's latest case is a personal one as he is hired by his friend and ex-cellmate, Dewey Baker. Dewey has just been released from his prison sentence after serving five years. Jim finds Dewey to be sober and a changed man after serving his sentence, but not all of Dewey's old prison mates think so. Dewey is receiving threatening phone calls from someone who claims to be one of his old prison enemies.

Meanwhile, Jim is also investigating the case of wealthy businessman, Victor Tomacky, and his missing granddaughter. Victor Tomacky and his wife are desperate to find their granddaughter, who was kidnapped from her school, and are willing to pay a large sum of money for her return. Jim soon discovers that Victor Tomacky has some shady business dealings, and that the case may be more complicated than it first appeared.

As Jim investigates both cases, he finds himself jumping through hoops and dodging bullets to get to the bottom of the mysteries. He follows leads that take him from Beverly Hills mansions to downtown Los Angeles' Chinatown, where he encounters a group of elderly kung fu masters who run a community center. The kung fu masters may hold the key to both cases, but Jim must earn their trust and prove himself worthy before they will help him.

As the two cases intertwine and Jim falls deeper into the dangerous world of organized crime, he realizes that the truth is not always what it seems. In the end, Jim must rely on his wit and resourcefulness to solve both cases and come out alive.

This episode of The Rockford Files delivers the perfect mix of action, humor, and drama. James Garner shines as Jim Rockford, the wise-cracking private detective with a heart of gold. The supporting cast, including Isaac Hayes as Jim's friend and informant, Gandolph Fitch, and Gretchen Corbett as Jim's attorney and love interest, Beth Davenport, add depth and dimension to the already rich storyline.

Overall, New Life, Old Dragons is a thrilling episode that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats until the very end. Whether you're a fan of the show or a newcomer to the series, this episode is not to be missed.
