Jim Rockford, a private investigator, is caught up in another complex case when his good friend, police detective Becker, asks for his help. A mob messenger has been killed, and the only witness is a severely traumatized young girl who refuses to talk to anyone. Rockford's task is to get the witness to speak up, identify the killer, and provide enough evidence to send the perpetrator to jail.

As he begins to investigate the case, Rockford quickly realizes that the mob is involved. He discovers that the messenger had been hired to deliver a briefcase full of cash, which was intended for the mob boss's rival. It seems that the messenger switched the money and kept the real contents of the briefcase for himself, which led to his untimely demise.

Rockford has a lot of work to do, but he is determined to solve the case. He starts by trying to gain the trust of the traumatized young girl, who witnessed the murder. At first, she is hesitant to communicate with him, as she is convinced that the killer will come after her. However, Rockford eventually earns her trust, and she leads him to the evidence he needs to solve the crime.

Rockford's investigation leads him to the corrupt police detective who was responsible for delivering the briefcase to the mob messenger. This corrupt detective was the one who had hired the messenger to carry out the task and wanted to ensure its success through any means necessary. Rockford soon realizes that the corrupt detective was also responsible for killing the messenger, to cover his own tracks. With the help of his friend Becker, Rockford is able to bring the detective to justice.

In this episode, Rockford finds himself embroiled in a murder case with many twists and turns. The task of getting the traumatized witness to communicate and identify the killer proves to be a significant challenge. Nonetheless, Rockford's persistence pays off as he skillfully gathers evidence and uncovers the truth behind the messenger's assassination. The episode is a thrilling example of the creativity and tenacity required of a top-notch private investigator.
