Ep 5. Reaper

In The Shannara Chronicles season 1 episode 5 named "Reaper," the series shifts its focus from Amberle's journey to becoming the new Chosen, to Wil's attempt to rid himself of the unwanted Ghost of his dead father.

The episode begins with a flashback of Wil and his father, Shea. Shea is giving Wil a lesson in sword fighting, and it's evident that Wil isn't quite at the level his father would like him to be. They have a heart-to-heart, and Shea bestows a special sword upon Wil, which he has had since he was the Chosen One.

Back in the present, Wil is desperately trying to rid himself of the Ghost of his father, who is haunting him. As he is walking through the woods, he happens upon the Rover girl, Eretria, who is camping alone. Eretria reveals she has a rare flower that can help Wil get rid of his Ghost, but it has to be picked in a nearby cave. Despite their mutual distrust, they decide to help each other out.

As they journey to the cave, Eretria reveals a little about her life as a Rover, and Wil learns that she is a highly skilled thief. Along the way, they are set upon by a group of Gnomes who are revealed to be under the control of a demon known as the Reaper. The Gnomes were out looking for Eretria, who stole from them.

They manage to escape from the Gnomes and make it to the cave, where they encounter a group of Trolls. Using Eretria's skills, they manage to sneak past the Trolls and pick the flower. Eretria reveals to Wil that it wasn't just any flower, but rather a rare, poisonous plant that she tricked Wil into helping her get. She then ties him up, intending to sell him to bounty hunters.

Meanwhile, back in Arborlon, Amberle is still on her own quest to save the Ellcrys. She and her new companions, the Rover girl, Cephelo and his two sons, have made it to a nearby village after encountering a group of Arion soldiers. While at the village, Amberle meets a young man named Tye, who has been wounded by the Arion soldiers. She heals him using magic, revealing her true identity as the Chosen One.

The Arion soldiers catch up with them, and a fight ensues. In the chaos, Amberle and Tye are separated from Cephelo and his sons and must continue on their own. Amberle manages to use her powers to grow a tree that they can climb, which takes them to a hidden cave.

As they rest in the cave, Tye reveals that he is in love with Amberle. She is touched by his words, but warns him that her destiny is far more important than any romance. They are interrupted by the arrival of Eretria, who has been captured by the Arion soldiers. The episode ends with Amberle, Tye, and Eretria being taken captive by the Arion army.

Overall, The Shannara Chronicles season 1 episode 5, "Reaper," is action-packed and packed with character development. While the show's focus shifts slightly away from Amberle and the Ellcrys, it gives more time to develop Wil and Eretria's relationship and background. Viewers will be left on the edge of their seats, wondering what will happen to our heroes as they are taken captive by the Arion army.
