Peru is one of the most fascinating places on earth, with a rich history and stunning landscapes. In this episode of Travel with Kids, we explore the Inca world and visit two of its most famous sites: Machu Picchu and Cuzco.
Our adventure begins in Lima, the capital city of Peru. We visit the historic center of Lima, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We explore the Plaza Mayor, which is surrounded by beautiful colonial buildings, including the Cathedral of Lima and the Palacio de Gobierno, which is the official residence of the President of Peru. We also sample some delicious Peruvian food, including ceviche, which is a traditional dish made of marinated seafood.
Next, we take a domestic flight to Cuzco, which was the capital of the Inca Empire. Cuzco is an incredible city, full of ancient ruins and colonial architecture. We visit the Qorikancha, which was a temple dedicated to the sun god during the Inca era. We learn about the fascinating history of the Inca civilization and their incredible engineering feats. We also explore some of the narrow, cobblestone streets of Cuzco, which are lined with charming shops and restaurants.
One of the highlights of our trip to Peru is a visit to Machu Picchu, which is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world. We take a train to the town of Aguas Calientes, which is located at the base of Machu Picchu. From there, we embark on a scenic bus ride up to the site itself. As we approach Machu Picchu, we are stunned by its beauty and grandeur. The site is perched on a steep mountain ridge, with stunning views of the surrounding Andes mountains.
Once we arrive at Machu Picchu, we take a guided tour of the site. Our guide explains the history of Machu Picchu and the Inca civilization, and we explore the various buildings, including the Temple of the Sun, the Royal Tomb, and the Intihuatana Stone. We are amazed by the incredible engineering feats of the Inca, who were able to build such an immense and complex site with only primitive tools.
After our visit to Machu Picchu, we return to Cuzco and explore some more of its many attractions. We visit Sacsayhuaman, which is a fortress that was built during the Inca era. The site is impressive, with massive stone walls and incredible views of the surrounding countryside. We also visit the San Pedro Market, which is a bustling local market where we can sample all sorts of Peruvian foods and buy souvenirs.
Overall, our trip to Peru is an incredible adventure, full of fascinating history, delicious food, and stunning landscapes. We are amazed by the ingenuity and skill of the Inca civilization, and we are grateful for the opportunity to explore such a unique and beautiful part of the world.
