Ep 5. Cookies

In the fifth episode of season one of Unique Sweets, the focus is on one of the most beloved desserts of all time: cookies. Hosts Zac Young and Paulette Goto travel the country to find some of the most unique and delicious cookies being made today.

The first stop is at Milk Bar in New York City where head pastry chef Christina Tosi offers up her famous Compost Cookie. This cookie is a kitchen sink of ingredients, including coffee grounds, potato chips, and pretzels, making it a treat that is both salty and sweet. The next stop is at the Cookie Underground in Los Angeles, California where owner and self-proclaimed cookie queen, Lindsey Garvin, creates what she calls her "contemporary classics." These cookies include unique flavors like the lavender and honey cookie, and the espresso and white chocolate cookie.

Next, the hosts visit Ovenly in Brooklyn, New York where they meet up with pastry chef Agatha Kulaga to sample her Salted Chocolate Chip cookie. This cookie is a customer favorite and is made with a special sea salt that really brings out the flavors of the chocolate chips. At Carol Ann's Bakery in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the hosts discover a cookie that has been a local favorite for over 30 years: the Monster Cookie. This giant cookie is made with oats, M&M's, and peanut butter and has gained a loyal following throughout the years.

In San Francisco, California, the hosts visit Craftsman and Wolves where Chef William Werner creates unique twists on classic desserts. Here, they try his Caramelized White Chocolate and Toasted Milk cookie, which is a take on a classic chocolate chip cookie but with a unique and delicious white chocolate twist. The final stop is in Portland, Oregon at Salt & Straw Ice Cream where they feature a rotating selection of ice cream flavors, including one very unique flavor that is perfect for cookie-lovers: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream. This ice cream is made with chunks of real cookie dough and chocolate chips, making it a perfect match for any cookie lover.
