George begins to stalk Bree as Susan tries to start a relationship with her once presumed dead father. Meanwhile, Lynette takes charge of office politics and gets more than she bargained for. Gabrielle is more than jealous of Carlos’ new confidante, and Betty tries to help Caleb.

Phyllis continues to irritate Bree with all of her melodramatic grieving, and Carlos makes an unusual request of Gabrielle, which she is not pleased with.

As the second season opens, Mike returns back home to discover that Zach is holding Susan hostage and must find a way to rescue them both. Lynette decides to interview for an account executive position at a top ad agency, since Tom has agreed to stay home with the kids. Her potential boss becomes skeptical, so Lynette goes all out to impress her. Rex's mother, Phyllis, comes in for his funeral and ends up driving Bree crazy. Gabrielle starts feeling guilty about being unfaithful and starts visiting Carlos in jail.

Susan, Lynette, and Gabrielle rush to the hospital to be with Bree after learning about Rex's heart attack. After returning home, Bree receives very shocking news about her husband. After Lynette causes him to lose his job, Tom suggests that Lynette be the one to go back to work and that he will become a stay-at-home dad. Carlos finally learns about Gabrielle's affair with John, in a very unexpected way. Paul finally reveals just why Mary Alice killed herself, which does not set will with Zach.

Susan finally makes a decision about Mike, which does not suit Edie at all. Lynette makes sure that Annabel will not interfere in her relationship with her husband. Bree finally realizes what George is up to, but it might come to late for Rex. Carlos' problems get even worse when Gabrielle finds out about the birth control. Mrs. Huber's journal reveals some juicy secrets as two new faces move to Wisteria Lane.

George continues to find ways to get into Bree's life, as Rex's health continues to get worse. Gabrielle's man troubles become even more complicated. Lynette decides to spice up her and Tom's love life because she feels he is losing interest. After talking with Kendra, Susan discovers that Mike killed a cop in self-defense, and decides she has to forgive him. Felicia takes action to help Zach and comes up with a way to get rid of Paul for good.

Gabrielle decides to give Carlos one last hurrah before he heads off to jail. Lynette cannot believe it when Tom's old girlfriend is hired by his firm. Susan and Julie get an unexpected surprised from the Youngs. While George Williams returns to Bree's life, much to Rex's displeasure.

Lynette momentarily helps out mean Mrs. McCluskey. Susan is still upset about her breakup with Mike and even more upset when her mother sets her up on a date with someone.

Susan's mother, Sophie, surprises her with an unannounced visit and tells her the latest news about her boyfriend. After Bree disciplines Porter while she is babysitting the Scavo children, Lynette becomes angry and chooses not to speak to Bree anymore. Meanwhile, Gabrielle and Carlos clash over the settlement of his mother's estate.

Mama Solis's condition changes, which might prove well for Gabrielle. Bree and Andrew continue fighting and it only gets worse. Susan becomes attracted to the contractor working for Edie. Lynette decides to befriend a deaf woman whose children also attend Barcliff.

The latest discovery about Maisy Gibbons shocks all of Wisteria Lane, especially Bree. Gabrielle has a crisis when the sewer breaks and she has no money to repair it. Lynette must put on a brave face when a rumor goes around the twins' school that they started the head lice epidemic. Meanwhile, Susan becomes even more depressed about breaking up with Mike.

Mike is questioned about Mrs. Huber's murder. John's friend, Justin, tries to blackmail Gabrielle after he finds out about their affair. Tom longs for a promotion, but Lynette sees it as having to stay at home with the kids even longer. Bree is absolutely horrified when she finds a condom and even more so when she finds out who used it.

Valentine's Day arrives on Wisteria Lane and Susan is looking for love on her date with Mike, until she learns a shocking secret it about him. Bree discovers something she never knew about Rex. Lynette's cranky neighbor accuses her sons of stealing. Gabrielle gets a job as a mattress model for a local salesman.

Lynette's father-in-law visits and she soon learns a family secret. Rex attempts to reconcile with Bree and Susan is upset at how close her daughter, Julie, is getting with Zach Young. Meanwhile, Gabrielle is shocked after John's parents come to her for a favor.

Wisteria Lane finally learns what happened to Martha Huber and Susan learns what Mrs. Huber knew about her. Bree feels that her new beau, George, is getting a little too close, but does not want to hurt his feelings. Carlos finally returns from jail, but Gabrielle is not too happy about it. Lynette chooses to lie about Parker's health so she can get into a yoga class.

Edie decides to organize a neighborhood search for Mrs. Huber, whose sister has just arrived on Wisteria Lane. Bree decides to ask the local pharmacist out on a date since she feels like her marriage is over. Karl suddenly arrives which surprises Susan. Meanwhile, Lynette is convinced that Tom is attracted to her newly acquired nanny.

Maisy Gibbons returns, and her secret life overlaps with Bree's. Gabrielle's situation worsens after Carlos makes a jailhouse confession. Susan plans to take her relationship with Mike to the next level, and Lynette, suspicious of her new nanny, decides to secretly videotape her. Paul Young makes a startling admission.

Gabrielle decides to organize a fashion show for charity featuring the women of Wisteria Lane. Susan then becomes angry at Gabrielle once she discovers her secret. John's mother, Helen Rowland, thinks her son is sleeping with Susan and not with Gabrielle, but Gabrielle confesses to Helen, to get the heat off Susan, that she's been sleeping with her son. Before Carlos finds out about Gabrielle's secret, he is arrested. Bree decides to take Andrew's behavior and punisment into her own hands. The police investigate a toy chest that is found in the river and the search is on for who put it there.

Susan becomes suspicious of the true reason why Mike decided to move to Wisteria Lane. Lynette finally reaches the breaking point in her addiction to the twins' ADD medication then decides it's time for drastic measures after having a dream about Mary Alice. Mr. Shaw ends up developing a relationship with Edie and also has a connection to Mary Alice Young after he talks to Paul Young on the phone. Lastly, Gabrielle confesses her affair with John to a priest while Carlos' mother is in a coma at the hospital.

Susan is upset when Mike's unexpected and sexy house guest, Kendra, forces him to postpone their first date. This leads Susan and Edie to follow him and Kendra on their night out together. Lynette becomes more dependent on the twins' ADD medication. Gabrielle becomes jealous of Danielle Van De Kamp being in John's life. Andrew gets into a serious car accident that puts Mama Solis in the hospital, right after she catches John and Gabrielle in the act.

Lynette disagrees with mom Maisy Gibbons when she tries to produce a "politically correct" play about "Little Red Riding Hood" at the twins' school. Meanwhile, Susan continues to investigate the Zach's disappearance and soon finds that his father, Paul, put him in Seacrest, a mental institution. Mama Solis comes closer to discovering Gabrielle's secret, and Bree comes enraged when Rex suggests they hire a sex surrogate.

After a break-in on Wisteria Lane, Susan feels vulneralbe and accepts a date with a policeman after Mike shows her no interest. Bree begins to bond with Zach, Mary Alice's troubled son, after Rex takes the kids away for the weekend. Meanwhile, Lynette and Tom try to get Porter and Preston into a prestigious private school, and Carlos' mother visits which puts a strain on Gabrielle's hidden affair with John.

Mrs. Huber figures out Susan's role in Edie's fire and attempts to blackmail her to make a quick buck. Meanwhile, a suspicious Carlos targets who he thinks Gabrielle is having an affair with the cable guy instead of John. Lynette cannot believe it when her twin's teacher suggests she place them on ADD medication. Lastly, Bree struggles with her rebellious son Andrew after Rex decides to move out.

The women decide it's best to go ahead with the big dinner party that Mary Alice had planned to host, despite their own disturbances. A nine-year-old girl catches Gabrielle and John together and begins to blackmail her. Bree tries to keep her marital problems a secret and Susan confronts her ex-husband, with surprising results.

Susan and Edie continue to fight over their sexy neighbor Mike, the plumber. Gabrielle begins to think that her gardener may be getting to attached to her after their affair and worries that Carlos is catching on. Bree gets Rex to agree to marriage counseling, but the counselor needs more help than they do. Meanwhile, Lynette turns to drastic measures to get her kids to behave, but her plan ends up backfiring; the women discuss the meaning of Mary Alice's suicide note; and the measuring cup that Susan left in Edie's house before accidentally burning it down may come back to haunt her when Mrs. Huber finds it.

From the viewpoint of Mary Alice Young, a housewife who killed herself, we are exposed to the lives of her family, neighbors and friends she left behind. After her death, her husband begins acting strange, which raises her friends suspicion and gossip begins flying about why she would do such a thing. From her now elevated viewpoint, Mary Alice shares with us the secrets that are hidden by each one residents of the seemingly perfect Wisteria Lane.
