Macross Frontier is a science fiction anime that premiered on MBS in 2008. It is the third television series in the Macross franchise and takes place in the year 2059, several decades after the events of the first Macross series. The story follows the adventures of a group of humans aboard the Macross Frontier, a giant spaceship that serves as a colony for human beings who have left Earth to find a new home. The Macross Frontier is on a mission to explore an uncharted region of space called the Vajra Frontier, which is believed to be the source of a mysterious alien race known as the Vajra.

The main character in the series is a young pilot named Alto Saotome, voiced by Kenta Miyake. Alto initially joins the Macross Frontier fleet as an aspiring kabuki actor, but his life takes a drastic turn when he becomes entangled in the war between humanity and the Vajra. Along the way, he forms a romantic relationship with two of the other main characters, a popular idol named Sheryl Nome (voiced by Aya Endo) and a childhood friend turned fighter pilot named Ranka Lee (voiced by Megumi Nakajima).

The other main characters in the show include Michael Blanc (voiced by Hirofumi Nojima), a skilled fighter pilot who serves as Alto's rival and friend, and Ozma Lee (voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi), a veteran pilot who serves as a mentor to the younger characters. The series also features a number of supporting characters, including Macross Frontier's captain, Luca Angeloni (voiced by Jun Fukuyama), and the Vajra Queen, Grace O'Connor (voiced by Kikuko Inoue).

One of the most notable aspects of Macross Frontier is its use of music as a central theme. The series features a large number of original songs performed by the characters, which range from upbeat pop tunes to emotional ballads. The show's music is a mix of genres, including J-pop, rock, and opera, and is composed by Yoko Kanno.

Another unique aspect of the series is its use of transforming mecha known as Variable Fighters. These aircraft can shift between a humanoid robot form and a jet fighter form, making them incredibly versatile in combat. The show's action sequences are fast-paced and visually stunning, with a mix of aerial dogfights, space battles, and ground-based combat.

Throughout the series, the characters must navigate a complex web of political intrigue and interpersonal drama, all while fighting for the survival of humanity against a powerful alien threat. The show's themes include the importance of communication, the power of music, and the need for cooperation and understanding across cultural and species divides.

Macross Frontier was a critical and commercial success, receiving praise for its strong characters, intricate storytelling, and memorable music. The show has spawned numerous spin-offs, merchandise, and video games, cementing its place as a beloved classic of the anime genre.
