In Mystery Diners season 8 episode 3, titled "Missing Memorabilia," a restaurant owner in California named Benny suspects that his new staff member is stealing valuable items, including signed sports memorabilia, from the establishment. To determine if this is true, Benny enlists the help of Charles Stiles and his team of Mystery Diners.
Upon arriving at the restaurant, the Mystery Diners interview the current waitstaff and Benny to gather information about the missing items. They also set up hidden cameras throughout the restaurant to observe the behavior of the suspect.
Throughout the course of the investigation, the Mystery Diners observe the staff member in question, a bartender named Tom, as he becomes increasingly suspicious. They witness him taking items that he should not be, and making unusual trips to the back room.
Meanwhile, the Mystery Diners also observe some questionable behavior from other members of the staff. They witness one of the waitresses handing over items to Tom, and another waitress attempting to remove items from the establishment through a back door.
As the investigation continues, the Mystery Diners uncover a complex web of deceit among the staff members of Benny's restaurant. They discover that several members of the staff are working together to steal items, and that their behavior is not limited to just the missing memorabilia.
In the end, the Mystery Diners provide Benny with enough evidence to take action against the dishonest staff members. He is able to recover the stolen items and make necessary staffing changes to prevent future theft from occurring.
Throughout the episode, viewers see the importance of having a vigilant eye on one's establishment, and the important role that Mystery Diners can play in helping business owners protect their livelihoods.
