Nekomonogatari Black is a 2012 Japanese animated television series produced by the studio Shaft and directed by Akiyuki Shinbo. It is part of the Monogatari series, which is based on the light novels written by Nisio Isin. Like its predecessors, Bakemonogatari and Nisemonogatari, Nekomonogatari Black follows the story of Koyomi Araragi as he gets involved with supernatural creatures and tries to help those affected by their presence. The show is split into four parts, and it premiered on December 31, 2012.

The main character of Nekomonogatari Black is Koyomi Araragi, a high school student who was attacked by a vampire and became a half-vampire. The show takes place in a world where supernatural beings exist, and Koyomi often finds himself getting involved with them. In Nekomonogatari Black, the focus is on a cat spirit that has been affecting the girls in his school.

The first part of the show is titled Tsubasa Family, and it focuses on Koyomi's friend, Tsubasa Hanekawa. Tsubasa has been acting strange lately and Koyomi suspects that there may be a supernatural cause. As he investigates, he discovers that Tsubasa has been possessed by the cat spirit that has been affecting the school. Koyomi tries to help her, but he soon learns that the situation is more complicated than he thought.

The second part is titled Mayoi Jiangshi, and it introduces a new character, Mayoi Hachikuji. Mayoi is a ghost who is looking for her way home, and Koyomi decides to help her. Along the way, they encounter a vampire hunter named Dramaturgy, who is looking for Koyomi's half-vampire sister, Karen. This part of the show is more comedic than the others and provides some much-needed levity.

The third part, titled Nadeko Medusa, focuses on Nadeko Sengoku, a girl who has been affected by the cat spirit as well. As Koyomi tries to help her, he discovers that the spirit has been manipulating her into doing its bidding. This part of the show is more dramatic and explores the themes of guilt and responsibility.

The final part of the show is titled Shinobu Time, and it focuses on Koyomi's relationship with Shinobu Oshino, a powerful vampire who lives in his shadow. Koyomi learns that Shinobu has been affected by the cat spirit as well, and he must confront his feelings of guilt and responsibility for what has happened.

Nekomonogatari Black is a visually stunning show, with unique animation techniques and creative camera angles. The soundtrack is also excellent, with a mix of jazzy tunes and haunting melodies. The voice acting is top-notch, with Hiroshi Kamiya as Koyomi Araragi, Yui Horie as Tsubasa Hanekawa, and Maaya Sakamoto as Shinobu Oshino. The characters are well-developed and complex, and their relationships with each other are powerful and emotional.

Overall, Nekomonogatari Black is a fantastic addition to the Monogatari series. It explores new themes and characters while staying true to the style and tone of its predecessors. Fans of the series will not be disappointed, and newcomers who enjoy supernatural tales with well-developed characters will find much to like as well.
