Tactical Roar is a Japanese anime television series produced by the animation studio TNK and aired on Chiba TV from July to September in 2006. The show is directed by Yoshitaka Fujimoto and written by Michiko Itou, with character designs by Noriyasu Yamauchi. The story takes place in the future, where the world is suffering from a shortage of resources due to overpopulation and environmental damage. To solve this problem, a new energy source called "U-Resource" has been discovered, which is extracted from the moon. However, the mining and transportation of U-Resource have become a target of piracy, leading to a war between countries.

To counter the threat of piracy, the Japanese government creates an all-female naval unit, the Blue Mermaids, composed of highly-trained and skilled girls who use submarine-based vehicles called "Blue Angels." Among the members of the Blue Mermaids is the main character, Misaki Nanaha (voiced by Mai Nakahara), who is the captain of Blue Angel 7 and possesses remarkable leadership skills.

Misaki Nanaha and her team, including her co-captain and love interest, Katsumi Mugen (voiced by Hisayoshi Suganuma), go on various missions to protect the U-Resource transport ships and prevent any attacks or sabotage. Their opponents are the Pirates, a group of rogue sailors who seek to overthrow the existing government and become the leaders of the world.

Throughout the series, the Blue Mermaids work to differentiate themselves from the pirates and to understand the rationale behind their actions, leading to complex and emotional confrontations with individuals on both sides of the conflict. Meanwhile, the characters themselves have to struggle with their own personal demons and issues as they fight for a better world.

The show's animation and music are noteworthy, with an opening theme song titled "UNTELLABLE STORY" by Akino Arai and an ending theme song titled "Yell" by Minami Kuribayashi. The action scenes are well choreographed and visually impressive, while the character designs and locations are highly detailed and richly colored. The voice actors deliver excellent performances, capturing the personalities and emotions of the characters with nuanced and powerful deliveries.

Overall, Tactical Roar is a thrilling and action-packed series that combines the intense action and drama of naval warfare with the insights and struggles of a talented and diverse group of women. As the Blue Mermaids fight to bring peace and stability to the world, they face danger and heartbreak, but also greater personal strength and purpose. For fans of sci-fi, action, and female empowerment, Tactical Roar is an essential watch.
