Each episode of America's Test Kitchen features the preparation and cooking of a wide range of recipes as well as taste tests of various food products. This series is filmed in Cook's Illustrated magazine's test kitchen located near Boston, Massachussetts, and has been on the air for more than 10 years. The host of America's Test Kitchen is Christopher Kimball. Instantly recognizable in his red A.T.K. apron and trademark bow tie, Mr. Kimball is a knowledgeable and entertaining host who has a likeable on-air personality. Almost professorial in approach, Mr. Kimball's enthusiasm keeps the show on an upbeat level. The other cast members of the program are skilled food professionals, and each is an expert in a specific field. The cooking segments are done with professional chefs who provide step by step instructions of each dish they prepare. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert recipes are all covered on the show. On any given episode of America's Test Kitchen, the chefs may be demonstrating how to prepare the best fried chicken or how to make croissants or how to prepare huevos rancheros. A very interesting part of America's Test Kitchen is when they explain the science involved in the preparation and cooking of different food items. Usually the process or example being explained is shown or carried out step by step for the viewer. Another interesting regular segment on this cooking show is the reviewing of kitchen equipment. Just some of the products that are reviewed on America's Test Kitchen are oven thermometers, smoker boxes, steamer baskets, loaf pans, toaster ovens and paring knives. While many of the products are new on the market others are tried and true kitchen favorites. The taste-test section of the show features cast members sampling different brands of a selected type of food product. From peanut butter, pasta and canned tuna to frozen pizzas, bread crumbs and fresh produce items all of the items are honestly and objectively reviewed.
