On this episode of Antiques Roadshow, we're taking a trip to the Shelburne Museum in Vermont for a two-part appraisal event. In this first hour, we'll be exploring the vast collection of this unique museum, which boasts 39 exhibition buildings on 45 acres of land.
Our expert appraisers are in for a treat with the varied and eclectic array of antiques and collectibles on display. From a stunning set of stained glass windows to a 19th-century mechanical toy featuring a three-ring circus, there's something for everyone.
One of the highlights of the hour is a remarkable Tiffany lamp with a hummingbird motif. The intricate details and vibrant colors of the stained glass shade are sure to impress, and our appraiser will be giving us an in-depth look at the history and value of this remarkable piece.
Another standout item is a striking bronze sculpture by American artist Edmonia Lewis. Born in 1844, Lewis overcame enormous obstacles as both a woman and a biracial artist to produce powerful works of art that are now highly sought after by collectors. Our appraiser will be examining this particular piece to give us an idea of its value on today's market.
But it's not all high-end art and collectibles at the Shelburne Museum. We'll also be taking a look at some more everyday items with fascinating histories. For example, a simple set of tin soldiers owned by a Union soldier during the Civil War provides a window into the daily life of soldiers during that tumultuous time.
And speaking of tumultuous times, we'll also be seeing a unique piece of World War II history in the form of a "hush hush" gas mask designed for use by spies and resistance fighters. Our appraiser will be giving us some insight into the fascinating and often dangerous world of espionage during wartime.
Of course, one of the most fun parts of Antiques Roadshow is seeing just how much some seemingly ordinary items can be worth. In this episode, we'll be introduced to a 1960s-era Barbie doll that could potentially fetch a surprising price at auction. And a vintage motorcycle helmet with a unique design provides a fun and quirky addition to the hour.
As always, the expert appraisers will be providing fascinating insight into the history and value of each of these items. And who knows? Maybe one lucky visitor to the Shelburne Museum will end up discovering their own hidden treasure.
Tune in to this episode of Antiques Roadshow to join in on the fun and excitement of exploring the unique and unexpected world of vintage and antique collectibles.
