Barney Miller is a sitcom set in a New York City police station that ran for eight seasons from 1975 to 1982. The show followed the daily lives of the officers and staff of the 12th precinct as they handled various crimes and situations in a humorous and often dry-witted way.

Season 7, Episode 11 of Barney Miller is titled "The Psychic". The episode opens with the officers of the 12th precinct gathered in the squad room, discussing the latest case they've been assigned to. A wealthy businessman has reported that he's being threatened by a psychic who claims to have psychic powers and is able to harm him through supernatural means.

As the officers discuss the case, they express various opinions on the validity of psychics and the supernatural. Detective Stan Wojciehowicz (Max Gail), who is a firm believer in the paranormal, suggests that they should take the case seriously, especially since the businessman is so afraid. Detective Ron Harris (Ron Glass) is skeptical, however, and expresses doubts that the psychic is actually capable of harming the man.

Captain Barney Miller (Hal Linden) decides to assign the case to Harris and Wojciehowicz, who are tasked with investigating the supposed psychic and determining whether he poses a real threat to the businessman.

The two detectives set off to interview the psychic, a man named Mr. David (played by actor Eugene Roche). When they arrive at his apartment, they find it filled with various mystical symbols and knick-knacks, which further fuels Wojciehowicz's enthusiasm for the case.

As they begin to question Mr. David, he confirms that he's been calling and threatening the businessman, but he insists that he has no real psychic powers and that it's all a scam to get money. Harris remains skeptical, but Wojciehowicz argues that there must be some kind of supernatural explanation for the businessman's fear.

As the detectives continue to question Mr. David, they begin to suspect that he may actually be in danger himself, as a shady group of individuals begin to threaten him in order to get him to stop his harassment of the businessman.

Meanwhile, back at the precinct, Detective Nick Yemana (Jack Soo) receives a visit from his old friend, a Japanese gardener named Mr. Hashimoto (played by actor James Hong). Mr. Hashimoto has come to share a perplexing mystery – he has found that someone has been stealing the koi fish from his garden pond in the middle of the night, and he's convinced that it's a supernatural entity that he's been hearing about on the news. Yemana tries to dismiss his friend's fears, but he eventually agrees to look into the case.

As the episode progresses, the two cases begin to merge together, with Harris and Wojciehowicz enlisting the help of Yemana and Mr. Hashimoto to investigate the supposed psychic and the strange happenings at the businessman's office.

The episode ends with a satisfying conclusion that ties the various threads together, while also leaving room for the viewer to question whether or not any real supernatural events occurred. Throughout the episode, the officers display their characteristic dry humor and cynicism, while also tackling some deeper topics about belief and skepticism. Overall, "The Psychic" is a memorable and entertaining episode of Barney Miller that showcases the show's unique blend of comedy and drama.
