The Puck Stops Here is the 14th episode of season 27 of the popular cooking competition show, Beat Bobby Flay. In this episode, two talented chefs go head-to-head for the chance to take on culinary master Bobby Flay in a cook-off showdown.
The first contestant is Chef Matt Basile, who hails from Toronto, Canada. Matt is the founder of the popular street food brand, Fidel Gastro's, and is known for his creative takes on classic dishes. He faces off against Chef Jennifer Zavala, a chef from Philadelphia who is well-known for her innovative Mexican cuisine.
The episode starts off with the two contestants arriving at the Beat Bobby Flay kitchen and engaging in some friendly trash talk. They then meet the judges for the episode, who will be tasting their dishes and determining who will move on to the final round.
The first challenge is the signature dish round, where each chef has 20 minutes to prepare their best dish for the judges. Chef Matt decides to make his take on a classic poutine, using crab meat, spicy mayo, and crispy potatoes. Chef Jennifer decides to make a Mexican-inspired dish using roasted pork, ancho chili, and tomatillo salsa.
The judges taste both dishes and give their critiques, with some high praise for both chefs. However, only one can move on to the final round, and after much deliberation, the judges make their decision.
In the second and final challenge, the remaining chef must prepare a dish using a secret ingredient chosen by Bobby Flay himself. For this episode, the secret ingredient is hockey pucks! The chefs are given 45 minutes to come up with a creative and delicious dish using this unconventional ingredient.
Chef Matt decides to make a dish he calls "Hockey Puck Sliders," using ground beef and a homemade sauce made with tomato paste and beer. Chef Jennifer opts for a spicy dish using chili flakes and garlic, and creates a hockey puck-inspired presentation featuring a ring of spice on the plate.
The judges taste both dishes and rave over the creativity and ingenuity of both chefs. After some intense deliberation, they make their final decision and choose the ultimate winner of the episode.
