In this episode of Beat Bobby Flay, titled "Any Given Sunday," two talented chefs compete for the chance to challenge Iron Chef Bobby Flay in a one-on-one cooking battle. The first chef is Alex Guarnaschelli, who is an Iron Chef herself and the executive chef at Butter in New York City. She is going up against a newcomer to the show, Rich Torrisi, who is the co-owner of Major Food Group and has trained under some of the most renowned chefs in the world.
For the first dish, the chefs must create a starter that showcases a selection of mushrooms. Alex decides to make a wild mushroom tart with truffle and parmesan cheese, while Rich creates a mushroom sformato with fontina cheese and black truffle. The judges are impressed with both dishes, but ultimately choose a winner who will gain an advantage in the next round.
In the second round, the chefs must create a main course that incorporates a trio of seafoods: lobster, scallops, and shrimp. Alex creates a surf and turf dish with a lobster tail, pan-seared scallops, and shrimp in a spicy tomato sauce, while Rich make a classic lobster fra diavolo with buttered scallops and fried shrimp. The judges have a difficult time choosing a winner, but the chef who impressed them the most moves on to the final round.
In the final round, the winning chef gets to choose the dish they will both make for the judges. Alex chooses to make a dessert that incorporates both fruit and chocolate: a chocolate and raspberry tart with whipped cream and raspberry sauce. Rich struggles with the dessert, but manages to come up with a chocolate and passion fruit tart with whipped cream and caramelized bananas.
In the end, only one chef can beat Bobby Flay, and it all comes down to the judges' decision. Which chef will prove themselves to be the best of the best and earn the chance to challenge Iron Chef Bobby Flay? Tune in to find out on this exciting episode of Beat Bobby Flay.
