Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations takes its viewers on a culinary journey to some of the world's most unique and exotic destinations, exploring local delicacies and traditional foods that are often unconventional and, at times, even bizarre. In season 5's second episode, entitled Buffalo, host Andrew Zimmern visits the city famous for its eponymous meat, Buffalo, New York, to uncover some of its most delicious and unusual eats.

The episode opens with a shot of Buffalo's famous chicken wings, before cutting to Andrew exploring the city's bustling waterfront district, where he meets up with local food blogger and enthusiast Donnie Burtless. Andrew and Donnie kick things up a notch with a visit to Duff's Famous Wings, a local institution that has been serving up its spicy, crispy chicken wings for over 50 years. The duo dig into their plate of wings, trying out Duff's legendary heat levels, from medium to "Atomic," a sauce so spicy it requires patrons to sign a legal waiver before ordering.

Next up, Andrew travels to the nearby town of East Aurora to explore another Buffalo delicacy, beef on weck. This sandwich, consisting of thinly sliced roast beef on a salty, caraway-seeded kimmelweck roll, is a regional specialty that can be found throughout western New York. Andrew stops by the legendary Bar Bill Tavern to sample their version of the dish, which is widely considered one of the best in the area.

After indulging in some meaty eats, Andrew ventures to a local farmers market to discover Buffalo's vibrant farm-to-table scene. He meets up with farmer Dan Oles, who takes him on a tour of his farm and shows him the process of raising and harvesting his heritage breed pork. Andrew then heads to Marble + Rye, a trendy restaurant in downtown Buffalo that is renowned for its pork belly and pickling program. Chef Mike Nobles demonstrates how to make his famous pork belly dish, and Andrew indulges in the rich, decadent flavors of the tender, crispy meat.

For an even more unconventional dining experience, Andrew heads to the Niagara Falls area to try out La Galera, a Mexican restaurant located inside a gas station. Chef Ricardo Triana prepares him a whole roasted pig head, a traditional Mexican delicacy known as cabeza, which is typically eaten as tacos or in soups. Andrew digs in, intrigued by the unique textures and flavors of the succulent meat.

The episode comes to a close with Andrew visiting Ru's Pierogi, a local restaurant that puts a modern twist on the Polish dumpling. Owner Nancy Russert serves up a variety of creative and unexpected pierogi flavors, from buffalo chicken to mac and cheese. Andrew samples a selection of the diner's most popular pierogi, indulging in the comforting, carb-heavy dumplings.

Throughout the episode, Andrew is enthusiastic about Buffalo's food scene, praising the city's unique blend of traditional and modern dishes and its emphasis on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. He's not afraid to try out some of the area's more bizarre fare, but also appreciates the simplicity and classic flavors of Buffalo's beloved wings and beef on weck. Overall, this episode of Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations is a mouthwatering exploration of Buffalo's diverse and delicious culinary offerings.
