In season 8, episode 12 of Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations, host Andrew Zimmern explores the unique culinary landscape of Bermuda. Known for its beautiful turquoise waters and pink sand beaches, Bermuda is also home to an array of delicious and unexpected cuisine.
Andrew first visits Fisherman's Wharf, a local fish market where he selects fresh fish to prepare with chefs at The Waterlot Inn. The chefs teach him how to make traditional Bermudan fish chowder, a spicy and hearty soup made with fish stock, tomatoes, onions, and plenty of hot sauce.
Next, Andrew heads to the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, which offers stunning views of the island and serves as a popular spot for afternoon tea. He samples classic Bermudan sweets like cassava pie and rum cake, as well as savory finger sandwiches with fillings like fish pate and spicy chicken curry.
Andrew then visits the historic town of St. George, founded in 1612 and a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. He tries Bermudan-style codfish cakes, made with salt cod and potato and served with a tangy pepper jelly.
At The Swizzle Inn, a beloved local pub, Andrew tries the namesake drink: a potent rum cocktail made with a secret blend of spices and served with a swizzle stick made from a local plant.
Finally, Andrew visits the famous Bermuda Triangle, where he learns about the history and legends surrounding the area. He also tries a unique take on fish and chips, made with wahoo instead of traditional cod.
Throughout the episode, Andrew meets locals who share their passion for Bermudan food and culture, and he discovers the ingredients and techniques that make Bermuda's cuisine so unique.
