In the third episode of the sixteenth season of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, host Andrew Zimmern travels to North Carolina to explore the unique and diverse culinary offerings of the state. North Carolina is known for its BBQ and seafood, but there is much more to discover.
Andrew begins his journey in the mountains of western North Carolina where he visits a family-owned farm producing a variety of artisanal cheeses. He witnesses the process of cheese-making and tries different types of cheese, including goat cheese and blue cheese.
Next, Andrew heads to Asheville to try some of the city's famous craft beer and speaks with the brewmasters about the process of making beer. He also tries beer-infused foods, including bratwurst and s'mores.
In the Outer Banks, Andrew samples the region's fresh seafood, which includes soft-shell crab, shrimp, and oysters. He visits a family-run fishing boat and learns how they fish for blue crabs and other seafood.
Andrew also explores the African-American culinary influence in North Carolina, which includes dishes like chitlins and collard greens. He speaks with a chef who creates dishes using traditional African flavors.
In Charlotte, Andrew visits a restaurant that serves Korean-inspired dishes, including Korean-style fried chicken and kimchi. He also tries Filipino-inspired dishes like pancit and lumpia.
Finally, Andrew ends his journey by trying North Carolina's famous BBQ. He visits a few different BBQ joints, sampling different styles and sauces, and learning about the history and traditions of BBQ in North Carolina.
Throughout the episode, Andrew explores both the traditional and modern culinary scene of North Carolina, meeting local farmers, chefs, and innovators who are keeping the state's culinary traditions alive while also adding their own unique twist.
