Brain is a medical drama television series released in South Korea. The show tells the story of Lee Kang-hoon, a celebrated neurosurgeon passionate about being the best in his field. His ultimate goal is to become the hospital's director. Over the course of his everyday life as a doctor, Lee Kang-hoon battles with his colleagues for a higher position at the hospital and pursues a workplace romance. Brain was written by Yoon Kyung-ah and directed by Yoo Hyung-ki and Song Hyun-wook. The series stars Jo Dong-hyuk, Shin Ha-kyun, Jeong Jin-yeong and Choi Jung-won. Brain stars Lee Kang-hoon, played by Shin Ha-kyun, who is an egotistical 30-something neurosurgeon working in a large hospital. Lee Kang-hoon is a valedictorian graduate of Korea's top medical school. His father passed away when he was young. Because he comes from an underprivileged, uneducated family, he made it his dream to become a success. He knew he wanted to be a doctor from an early age, and ultimately decided to pursue neurosurgery as a way to work his way up to the top position in the hospital. He develops a romantic interest in Yoon Ji-hye. Seo Joon-suk, played by Jo Dong-hyuk, comes from a privileged family. Lee Kang-hoon sees him as his greatest competition for the position of director. Kim Sang-chul, played by Jeong Jin-yeong, is a middle-aged thoughtful and compassionate neurosurgeon and the hospital chief, who advises Yoon Ji-hye, a doctor played by Choi Jung-won. Seo Joon-suk wishes to pursue a relationship with Yoon Ji-hye, but she is already involved with Kang-hoon. Kang-hoon is stunned to discover that Kim Sang-chul was responsible for the death of his father. Brain won four awards at the KBS Drama Awards in 2011 and was nominated for two awards at the Baeksang Arts Awards in 2012. The show airs on KBS2 in South Korea. It is preceded by Poseidon and followed by Dream High Season 2. The first season ran from November 2011 through January 2012 over the course of 20 episodes. The show earned generally positive reviews.
