Host Ali Khan is in Music City, USA, also known as Nashville, Tennessee for this episode of Cheap Eats season three. He is on a mission to find the best cheap eats in the city that's most known for country music but has got a lot more going on in the food department.
Firstly Ali heads to Dino's, which is a dive bar with a rockabilly vibe. He gets chatty with the regulars there before tucking into their famous burger, which is known as one of the best in the city. Next up, Ali heads to Pepperfire Hot Chicken where he meets the owner but also takes on the hottest chicken challenge there is. Pepperfire is known for its hot chicken but in the restaurant, they have mild, medium, hot and “shut the cluck up” levels of heat and its that last one that Ali tries.
Ali's taste buds may be on fire, but he's eager to try more and so he next heads to Edley's Bar-B-Que. Here he meets Pitmaster Bret Tuck who gives Ali a behind-the-scenes look at their smoker room and also the chance to try their famous brisket, that is cooked in a smoker for up to 18 hours.
From Edley's, Ali is off to The Grilled Cheeserie, which is a Nashville staple. He tries their signature sandwich, which is a twist on the classic grilled cheese. He goes for the “melt of the moment” that has pork belly and pimento cheese amongst other things.
Ali's next stop is Hattie B's where he tries their famous hot chicken, which comes served on white bread. He also tries some iconic Southern side dishes, such as pimento macaroni and cheese and collard greens.
For his final stop, Ali heads to Christie Cookie Co. which is famed for its sweet treats, in particular, its chocolate chip cookies. He gets to see firsthand how the cookies are made and samples a few to take home.
In between all his food tasting and discovery, Ali takes the time to explore Nashville's Music Avenue, visiting the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, as well grabbing a drink in a honky-tonk bar.
This episode is not to be missed for those looking for Nashville's best food on a budget, as Ali manages to try all these incredible eats for less than $35.
