Ep 7. The Deadly Stroll; Unholy Secret

  • September 21, 2006

In Cold Case Files season 6 episode 7 titled "The Deadly Stroll; Unholy Secret" two separate cases are investigated.

The first case begins with the discovery of a body in a stone quarry, 20 years after the murder took place. The victim was a young woman who had gone missing after going on a walk near the quarry. Her parents were left with no answers as to what had happened to their daughter, until DNA evidence linked the body to the missing person case.

The investigative team delved into the case, beginning with interviewing the victim's friends and family. They uncovered a possible suspect, a man who had been seen near the quarry around the time of the murder. After obtaining a DNA sample from him, they found a match to the DNA found on the victim's clothing. The suspect was arrested and tried for the murder of the young woman, finally bringing justice to her family.

The second case covered in this episode involved a nun who had been found murdered in a church rectory. The murder took place in the early 1980s, and despite an extensive investigation, no one was ever charged with the crime.

The investigation was reignited in the early 2000s, when a new team of investigators uncovered a possible link between the nun's murder and a series of sexual assaults on other nuns in the same area at the time. They brought in a suspect who had been arrested in connection with the sexual assaults, hoping to finally have a breakthrough in the murder case.

However, the suspect's alibi held up and the case once again went cold. It wasn't until new investigators re-examined the case again in the mid-2010s that a new suspect emerged. Through DNA evidence and a witness coming forward, the team was finally able to bring charges against the suspect for the murder of the nun.

Overall, "The Deadly Stroll; Unholy Secret" showcases the tireless work of investigators who are dedicated to solving cold cases and bringing justice to victims and their families. Through interviews, DNA evidence, and re-examining evidence, investigations can be reopened and solved, even years after the crime took place. The episode also highlights the emotional toll that these cases can have on victims' loved ones, showing the importance of closure and justice in these situations.
