John Constantine is a unique character who possesses a strong sense of wit, intelligence, and a vast knowledge of the occult. He is known as one of the greatest sorcerers in the world, and he uses these skills to battle demons and malevolent spirits that threaten humanity.

In this episode, "The Darkness Beneath," Constantine is tasked with investigating a series of strange occurrences in a small mining town in Pennsylvania. The town, called Heddwich, is experiencing an unusually high number of disappearances, and the locals believe that something sinister is at play.

Constantine is brought in by a woman named Anne Marie Flynn, who is a close friend and former lover. Anne Marie is a member of a group called the "Newcastle Crew," which consisted of Constantine and several other occult practitioners. The group had a traumatic experience in the past that has haunted them all ever since, and Anne Marie hopes that by bringing Constantine to Heddwich, they can put their demons to rest.

Once Constantine arrives in Heddwich, he quickly realizes that there is indeed something evil lurking in the town. The mine workers are going missing in the middle of their shifts, and no one can explain why. There are also strange smells and sounds emanating from the mine, and the locals speak of a mysterious entity that prowls the tunnels.

Constantine begins to investigate, using his knowledge of the occult to uncover the source of the disturbances. He meets with the local sheriff, who is at a loss as to what to do about the disappearances. Constantine also encounters a young boy named Jack, who has a connection to the mine and the entity that lives within.

As Constantine delves deeper into the mystery, he uncovers a shocking truth about what is happening in Heddwich. The entity that is causing the disappearances is not a demon or a malevolent spirit - it is something much more insidious. What Constantine discovers will test his skills as a sorcerer and his resolve as a human being.

As always, Constantine is an entertaining and engrossing character to watch on screen. He is charismatic and witty, but also deeply troubled by his past actions. His relationship with Anne Marie is complicated and fraught with tension, and the way that their history is slowly revealed over the course of the episode adds an emotional depth to the story.

The supporting cast is also excellent, particularly the performance of Harold Perrineau as Manny, a mysterious angel who has taken an interest in Constantine's activities. The chemistry between Constantine and Manny is electric, and their scenes together are some of the strongest in the episode.

Overall, "The Darkness Beneath" is a captivating and well-written episode that showcases the strengths of the Constantine character and the world in which he operates. It is a dark and unsettling story that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats until the very end.
