Demonbane is a science fiction anime series that first aired on AT-X during the fall 2006 anime season. The show is based on a series of visual novels by Nitroplus, with the anime adaptation being produced by the animation studio, View Works. The series follows the adventures of a young man named Kurou Daijuji, who is a private detective in Arkham City in the 1920s. Kurou has been hired by a wealthy recluse named Reika Houjou to find a rare and powerful book known as the Necronomicon.

Kurou's investigation leads him to a strange mansion on the outskirts of town, where he encounters a girl named Al Azif, who claims to be the Necronomicon itself. Al Azif is being pursued by a group of villains known as the Black Lodge, who are seeking to use the book's power for their own nefarious purposes.

As Kurou becomes drawn deeper into the conflict between Al Azif and the Black Lodge, he discovers that there is much more at stake than just the fate of the Necronomicon. He eventually learns of an ancient and powerful machine called the Deus Machina Demonbane, which is capable of granting its pilot immense power and the ability to reshape reality itself.

Kurou soon finds himself at the center of a battle to control the Demonbane, as various factions seek to use its power to achieve their own ends. Along the way, he is aided by a number of allies, including his assistant, the sorceress Reika Kitami, and a mysterious woman known as Doctor West.

The series is known for its fast-paced action scenes and its intricate plot, which weaves together elements from Lovecraftian horror, alternate history, and mecha anime. The show also features a number of nods to other works of fiction, including references to H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos and the works of Arthur Conan Doyle.

One of the standout features of Demonbane is its mecha designs, which were created by Nitroplus co-founder and noted artist Takeshi Miyazawa. The Deus Machina Demonbane is a particularly striking design, with its mix of organic and mechanical elements giving it a unique look that sets it apart from other mecha in anime.

The show's animation is also impressive, with View Works delivering some truly spectacular action scenes throughout the series. The fight sequences are well-choreographed and feature plenty of explosions, laser beams, and giant robots, making for some truly epic battles.

Overall, Demonbane is a thrilling and complex anime series that will appeal to fans of action, mecha, and Lovecraftian horror. With its engaging characters, intricate plot, and top-notch animation, the show is definitely worth checking out for anyone looking for an exciting and unique anime experience.
