Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives Season 2016 Episode 3 Between the Bread
- January 22, 2016
In this episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, host Guy Fieri takes his viewers on a journey to explore the best sandwiches America has to offer. Titled "Between the Bread," this episode features several different sandwich joints across the country, each with their unique twist on the classic American sandwich.
First up is a visit to a family-run deli in Massachusetts called The Pork Store. Here, Fieri samples their famous "Hot Pastrami" sandwich, which is piled high with freshly sliced pastrami, Swiss cheese, and mustard on a warm Kaiser roll. The secret to their delicious sandwich, however, is the hand-cut fries that are layered on top of the meat.
Next, Fieri heads to New York City to try out the sandwiches at Court Street Grocers. Known for using only the freshest ingredients, Court Street Grocers serves up mouth-watering creations such as their "Hero Shop" sandwich, a massive sub filled with prosciutto, salami, mortadella, and provolone.
Moving on to the West Coast, Fieri stops by the Biscuit House in San Diego to try some of their Southern-style sandwiches. The restaurant's most popular sandwich is the "Hot Mess," a combination of fried chicken, bacon, and gravy served on a homemade biscuit. Fieri also samples their "Hangover Burger," which features a beef patty topped with cheddar cheese, bacon, and a fried egg.
After his trip to California, Fieri heads back east to visit the Bite Cafe in Chicago. This hipster cafe is known for serving up unique sandwiches like their "Fried Green Tomato BLT," which swaps out the traditional red tomato for a crispy fried green one. Fieri also tries their "Italian Beef Sandwich," a Chicago classic that's stuffed with thinly sliced beef and topped with giardiniera, a spicy pickled vegetable mixture.
Next on the list is a visit to the City Sandwich shop in New Jersey. This cozy eatery specializes in Portuguese-style sandwiches, such as their "Francesinha," a decadent creation that features ham, linguiƧa sausage, and roast beef smothered in melted cheese and gravy. Fieri also tries their "Barney Rubble," a sandwich filled with bacon, egg, and cheese on a Portuguese roll.
Finally, Fieri heads to Portland, Oregon, to check out the famous Lardo sandwich shop. This pork-centric restaurant serves up sandwiches like their "Porchetta" sandwich, a melt-in-your-mouth combination of slow-roasted pork, cracklings, and apple mostarda. Fieri also samples their "Pho'rench Dip," which combines two classic sandwiches, the French dip and the Vietnamese pho, into one mouth-watering creation.
Overall, the "Between the Bread" episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives offers a delicious tour of some of the best sandwich joints America has to offer. Fieri's high-energy personality and love for good food make this show a must-watch for anyone looking to explore the diverse culinary offerings of the United States.
