Triple D Nation: Comfort is the sixth episode of the 41st season of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. The episode features host Guy Fieri returning to some of his favorite restaurants from past seasons to check in on how they have been doing and what new comfort food dishes they have added to their menus.
The first restaurant Guy revisits is in Cincinnati, Ohio at a breakfast spot that has been a staple in the community for over 80 years. They are known for their massive pancakes and unique omelets, and have recently added some vegan options to the menu. Next, Guy travels to Iowa to check out a diner that was previously a gas station. They have kept some of the original gas station elements as decor, but their food is what keeps people coming back. They are now offering a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich that is larger than your face.
In Fort Collins, Colorado, Guy visits a restaurant that has been around for over 35 years and is famous for their pizza. They have added a new twist to their classic pizza by incorporating Colorado-sourced ingredients. Back in Ohio, Guy visits a diner that has been in business since 1940 and is known for their homemade pies. They have started baking pies that are dairy-free and gluten-free to cater to a wider audience.
Guy continues his journey in Charleston, South Carolina, at a barbecue joint that is a local favorite. They have implemented a new smoker that allows them to cook their ribs for 18 hours, resulting in a tender and juicy meat that falls off the bone. In San Antonio, Texas, Guy heads to a restaurant that serves up authentic Tex-Mex cuisine. They are now making their masa, a key ingredient in their tamales and tortillas, in-house, resulting in a fresher and more flavorful product.
The final stop on Guy's comfort food tour is in San Diego, California, at a restaurant that was previously a dive bar. They have since remodeled the space and now serve up burgers that have been voted the best in town. They have also added a new menu item that combines the flavors of two comfort foods: mac and cheese and hot dogs.
Throughout the episode, Guy shares his thoughts on the importance of comfort food and how it brings people together. He also discusses the challenges that many restaurants have faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic and how some have adapted by offering takeout and delivery options. Overall, Triple D Nation: Comfort is a heartwarming and delicious journey through some of the best comfort food spots in the country.
