Ep 9. Zanzibar

In this episode of Earth Odyssey with Dylan Dreyer, we travel to the archipelago of Zanzibar, located off the coast of Tanzania in East Africa. Zanzibar is known for its stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant culture, making it a popular destination for tourists from around the world.

She heads to the Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, a protected area that is home to the endangered red colobus monkey. The national park is also home to a lush mangrove forest, which provides important habitat for a variety of marine and bird species.

Dylan then takes to the water, heading out on a traditional dhow boat to explore some of the island's idyllic beaches and coral reefs. She visits Paje Beach, which is known for its stunning white sand and turquoise waters, as well as the nearby coral reef, which is one of the best places in Zanzibar to go snorkeling.

But Zanzibar's beauty is also deeply intertwined with its history, and Dylan spends time exploring some of the island's dark past. She visits the island's former slave market, a somber reminder of the island's past as a hub of the African slave trade. The market has since been converted into a museum, where visitors can learn more about the history of slavery in Zanzibar and around the world.

Finally, Dylan immerses herself in the island's unique culture, visiting a local village to learn more about traditional Swahili weaving and music. She also samples some of the island's delicious cuisine, which is a fusion of African, Indian, and Arab influences.
