- April 19, 2011
Eat St. is a food show that explores various street foods from all around North America. Season 1, Episode 2 takes us on a journey to discover new and exciting dishes that we usually don't find in our regular restaurants. The host, James Cunningham, visits four different food trucks and tries out their unique specialties.
The first stop of this episode is in Vancouver, Canada, where we meet Dougie of Dougie Dog Hot Dogs. Dougie serves a variety of hot dogs like "The General," which features a hot dog with chili, cheese, and bacon toppings. James also tries out their maple bacon donut, which is a dessert item with a difference. Dougie also reveals that his love for hot dogs came from a childhood memory, and he has worked hard to make unique toppings that will make his hot dogs stand out.
The second stop is in Portland, Oregon, where James visits EuroTrash Food Cart. The owner, Jossy Eyre, and her partner, Luke, create a fusion of European and American comfort foods. Their signature dish is the "Belgian waffle sandwich," which is a sandwich made with crispy waffles, cucumbers, ham, and a variety of sauces. James also tries out their deep-fried macaroni and cheese balls, which is a treat for anyone who loves cheesy food.
Next up, we go to Austin, Texas, where James visits Mighty Cone, a food truck that serves the ultimate fried food. Owner Jeff Blank uses a unique concept where he wraps up food in a tortilla cone, and that's where the name "Mighty Cone" comes from. James samples their famous "Hot and Crunchy Cone," which is a tortilla cone filled up with hot and crunchy fried chicken. Jeff also reveals that they had to experiment with several different chicken marinades before they found the perfect one.
The last stop of this episode is in Bellingham, Washington, where James meets Heather and Scott of Crave, an ice cream food truck. Heather and Scott serve various unique ice cream flavors that they have created, like "Bacon & Bourbon" and "Rosemary & Honey." James tries out their special "Crave Sundae," which has bacon bits, peanut butter sauce, and potato chips as toppings. Heather and Scott explain that they didn't want to rely on food coloring to achieve bright colors in their ice cream, so they use all-natural ingredients to achieve the same.
In each stop, James Cunningham not only tries out the food, but he also learns about the inspiration behind these food trucks. We get to see the passion and hard work that has gone into creating these unique dishes. The episode also indicates that the food truck industry is becoming a popular business venture, and it takes more than just a love for food to make it successful.
Overall, Season 1, Episode 2 of Eat St. is a delightful journey of discovering new and exciting foods. It gently encourages us to be open-minded and try out different cuisines, no matter how unconventional they may seem. It's a must-see for anyone who loves food and is looking for an adventure.
