Ep 1. Prologue

In the world of Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works], there exists a secret battle waged between seven mages, known as Masters, and their legendary heroic spirits, called Servants. These Servants are the reincarnations of the greatest warriors in history, each possessing unique powers and abilities. The winner of this battle, known as the Holy Grail War, will be granted any wish they desire.

The first episode, titled Prologue, introduces us to the story's protagonist, a high school student named Emiya Shirou. Shirou was the lone survivor of a massive fire that destroyed much of his town 10 years ago. He was rescued by a mage named Kiritsugu Emiya and taken in as his son. Kiritsugu was a participant in the previous Holy Grail War but was unable to achieve his wish. He instilled upon Shirou a desire to become a hero and save others, which leads him to volunteer at his school's archery club.

One night, after school, Shirou stumbles upon a battle between two Servants and their Masters. One of the Servants, Archer, takes notice of Shirou and attacks him. Just as Shirou is about to be killed, another Servant, Saber, arrives and saves him. Saber is a beautiful and powerful swordswoman, clad in armor. She explains to Shirou that she is a Servant summoned by his classmate, Tohsaka Rin, to participate in the Holy Grail War.

After the battle, Shirou and Saber are attacked again, this time by a rogue Servant. Saber quickly dispatches the enemy, but in doing so, expends a great deal of her energy. She is forced to rely on Shirou to help her make it back to Rin's mansion, where they meet Rin and her Servant, Archer.

Rin is a skilled mage from a long line of powerful mages. She is cold and calculating but has a soft spot for Shirou. Archer is a tall, enigmatic figure, with black hair and sharp features. He is very confident and sure of himself but respectful towards Rin.

Rin and Shirou form a temporary alliance to protect each other and their respective Servants. Rin is hesitant to let Shirou get involved, as he has no formal training in magecraft, but Shirou insists on helping in any way he can. Rin agrees to teach him some basic skills, but it is clear that Shirou has a long way to go before he can participate in the Holy Grail War.

The episode ends with Shirou reflecting on his desire to become a hero, but also realizing that he lacks the power to truly save anyone. He resolves to get stronger and protect those close to him, no matter the cost.
