Ep 5. Master Player

As the title suggests, episode 5 of season 1 of "Growing Up Hip Hop" is all about mastering the game of life, and the entertainment companies behind it. Among other things, this episode sees the heirs of some of Hip Hop's greatest legends coming together to celebrate the life and music of one of their own. But it's not all good news for this young cohort as they quickly realize that the music industry is as cutthroat as it can get.

First up, we see the young heirs to the throne, Romeo, Angela, Aveon, and Kristinia, paying tribute to the life and music of Kurtis Blow. All of them are thrilled to be part of the celebration of one of Hip Hop's most iconic rappers. During the party, they find themselves talking about the state of the industry, and the challenges they face as young people trying to make their mark while carrying the legacies of their fathers.

Meanwhile, Angela is busy trying to find a suitable location for her website's office. She's been considering two different locations for her headquarters, but she's yet to make a decision. Unsurprisingly, this creates some tension between her and Romeo, who thinks that she's being too indecisive - something that might cost her in the long run. Angela is finally forced to make a decision when she realizes that someone has already taken one of the locations and that she has lost out.

Another star in the making, Kristinia, finds herself grappling with her father's decision to take a break from the music industry. She's also worried about how this decision will affect her future in the business. Add to that the fact that her mother is spearheading a new album for her, and the pressure is really building up. Kristinia has some tough decisions to make but, like her father before her, she's determined to stay true to her music no matter what.

Aveon, a newcomer to the Hip Hop scene, is getting ready for the biggest performance of his life. He's been invited to perform at the BET Awards, and he's determined to make a name for himself at the show. However, he's worried that his father may not be on board with his decision to pursue music. Aveon has a heart to heart with his father and they come to an understanding about his choice of career. Aveon's performance at the BET Awards goes off without a hitch and the future looks bright for the newcomer.

The episode concludes with the young rappers talking amongst themselves about the industry and how it chews up and spits out those who can't keep up. They highlight how difficult it is to maintain a career in Hip Hop, while also keeping their heads above water in the cutthroat world of entertainment. The episode ends on a somber note as the young rappers come to grips with the reality of their chosen profession.

Overall, "Growing Up Hip Hop" season 1 episode 5 is a great watch for Hip Hop fans. There's something for everyone in this episode - from the young rappers finding their feet in the industry, to the established old school rappers waxing poetic about the good old days. The episode does an excellent job of showcasing the struggles that these young people face as they try to carve out a name for themselves in the music industry. It's a reminder that, despite the glamour and glitz that we see on screen, there is a lot that goes into making it in the entertainment world.
