In season 17, episode 13 of Guy's Grocery Games, titled "GGG Kids," young chefs take over the store for a friendly competition. The episode begins with Guy Fieri introducing the four contestants: Hannah, Lyla, Oliver, and Troy. Hannah is a 9-year-old who loves making breakfast dishes, Lyla is a 12-year-old who wants to open her own bakery, Oliver is a 10-year-old who enjoys cooking with his dad, and Troy is a 13-year-old who is passionate about creating gourmet cuisine.
As the young chefs make their way through the store, they are given thirty minutes to create a dish using three ingredients from Guy's list. For Hannah, that means creating a breakfast sandwich with salmon, potato chips, and maple syrup. Lyla decides to use blueberries, arugula, and eggs to create a tart. Oliver makes chili with tomato soup, pork rinds, and flank steak. Troy uses scallops, leeks, and Rice Krispies to make a savory dish.
After sampling all of the dishes, Guy chooses Lyla as the winner of the first round. Lyla is ecstatic and can't wait to see what the next challenge will be. In the second round, the young chefs must use a random ingredient from Guy's "Aisle of Chance" to create a dish in just twenty minutes. Lyla chooses a jar of pickled beets, Hannah selects fortune cookies, Oliver uses pomegranate molasses, and Troy gets sweet potato gnocchi.
All of the young chefs create delicious dishes, and Guy has a tough time choosing the winner. Ultimately, Troy wins the second round with his creative sweet potato gnocchi dish. The final round is the most challenging yet, as the young chefs must make a family-style meal for under $20 using only the ingredients in their shopping cart. They each get an extra ten minutes in this round, and they must come up with a dish that can feed four people.
Hannah decides to make baked ziti, Lyla creates chicken skewers with an Asian-inspired sauce, Oliver makes a grilled pork dish, and Troy whips up an Italian meatball soup. As the judges sample each dish, they are impressed with the creativity and skill level of the young chefs. Ultimately, Lyla wins the final round with her delicious and flavorful chicken skewers.
Overall, "GGG Kids" is a heartwarming episode that showcases the talent and passion of young chefs. The contestants are all impressive and show a level of skill that defies their age. Guy Fieri is an excellent host, providing guidance and encouragement to the young chefs throughout the competition. The show is a fun and entertaining watch for the whole family, showcasing creativity, talent, and a love for cooking.
