.hack//Roots is a Japanese animated series that serves as the prequel to the video game series .hack//G.U. The show takes place in an Massively Multiplayer Roleplaying Game named The World Revision:2 and follows the story of Haseo, a player and member of an in-game guild called the 'Twilight Brigade.' The Brigade is focused on finding The Key of Twilight by collecting various Virus Cores scattered throughout the world. They are opposed by another powerful guild named 'TaN,' who are trying to obtain the character data of the Twilight Brigade's Guildmaster, Ovan.
