In this episode of Man v. Food, host Adam Richman travels to Kansas City, Missouri, to take on the Jurassic Pork challenge at the famous barbecue joint, Oklahoma Joe's. The challenge involves consuming a monstrous sandwich containing three types of meat - pulled pork, smoked sausage, and pit ham - along with melted provolone cheese, onion rings, and barbecue sauce, all served on a massive bun.
The challenge is named after the colossal size of the sandwich, weighing in at a whopping five pounds. Adam must finish the entire sandwich and its accompaniments in under an hour to complete the challenge and earn his place on the restaurant's wall of fame.
Before taking on the challenge, Adam meets with the pitmasters at Oklahoma Joe's to learn about the restaurant's history and techniques for smoking and barbecuing their meats. He also samples some of their famous burnt ends, a Kansas City barbecue staple, and learns how they are prepared.
With his appetite primed, Adam is ready to take on the Jurassic Pork challenge. The sandwich arrives on a large tray, and Adam is immediately taken aback by its size. He begins to dig in, first tackling the meat and then moving on to the toppings. The flavors and textures of the sandwich are a match made in heaven – the smoky meats balanced perfectly with the tangy barbecue sauce and crunchy onion rings.
As the clock ticks down, Adam starts to feel the pressure of the challenge. He struggles to finish the last few bites of the mammoth sandwich, but ultimately perseveres and completes the challenge with just minutes to spare.
In addition to the Jurassic Pork challenge, Adam also visits a local brewery to try some of their unique and flavorful beers, as well as a local diner for a taste of their famous apple pie.
