In this episode of Seirei no Moribito, titled "Guardian of the Spirit: Neither Human Nor Tiger," we find Balsa and Chagum on the run, attempting to make their way to the safety of the mountains. Chagum is still in danger as his father, the Emperor, has ordered his capture.
As they journey through the countryside, they come across a village that has been attacked by a ferocious wild beast. The villagers have been left without any means of survival as their crops have been destroyed, and they are now forced to rely on help from strangers passing through.
Balsa, being the skilled warrior she is, offers to help the village in exchange for food and shelter. She successfully hunts down the beast, which proves to be neither human nor tiger but rather a hybrid of the two. Chagum sees this as a sign that the water spirit must be involved, and this only adds to his growing sense of responsibility.
Meanwhile, the Emperor is still determined to capture Chagum and orders his elite hunters to increase their efforts. The hunters consist of a brother and sister duo, both highly skilled in their craft. The brother, Torogai, is a shaman who has a deep connection with nature, while his sister, Saya, is a formidable fighter.
As Balsa and Chagum continue their journey, they encounter Torogai and Saya, who have been tracking them down. A fierce battle ensues, and it becomes apparent that both sides are evenly matched. However, the fight is interrupted by the appearance of a group of hunters on horseback, who are also after Chagum.
Balsa and Chagum manage to escape, but not without taking a few injuries in the process. They are forced to take shelter in a nearby cave, where they encounter a group of travelers. The travelers prove to be kind and helpful, and they offer to heal Balsa and Chagum's wounds.
As they recover, Balsa and Chagum learn that the travelers are searching for a legendary warrior known as the "Guardian of the Spirit." It is said that this warrior possesses the power to communicate with the spirits and can protect those who are destined to save the world.
This revelation has Chagum feeling even more responsible for his fate, and he begins to question whether or not he truly has the strength and courage to fulfill his destiny. Balsa reassures him that he is indeed strong and capable, and that she will always be there to protect him.
As they prepare to leave the safety of the cave, they are once again confronted by Torogai and Saya. However, this time it is not a battle that takes place, but rather a peaceful conversation. Torogai reveals that he is not interested in capturing Chagum, but rather in protecting him. He believes that Chagum is the key to saving their world, and he wants to help in any way possible.
With this newfound ally, Balsa and Chagum continue their journey, knowing that they are not alone in their quest to protect the water spirit and save their world.
