Ep 13. Three's a Crowd

In Mystery Diners season 4 episode 13, the team is called in to investigate a family-owned sports bar in Colorado Springs called Legends Sports Bar & Grill. The owners, Sean and Jerri, suspect that their manager, Jon, is stealing from them and has been regularly inviting his friends and family to come in and eat and drink for free.

The Mystery Diners team sends in two undercover operatives to pose as a couple and a third operative, Marci, to pose as a waitress. Marci is wearing a hidden camera and microphone as she serves the couple and observes Jon's behavior. The couple requests a table in Jon's section and he promptly seats them. When Marci comes to take their order, Jon jumps in and takes over the interaction, suggesting specific menu items and urging them to order drinks. He also offers them a free dessert at the end of their meal.

As the couple eats their meal, Marci notices that Jon is spending a lot of time in the back office on his phone. She also observes him providing free drinks and food to his friends at the bar and suspected that the family is being charged for it. After the couple finishes their meal, they ask for the check and Jon brings them a bill that includes charges for drinks and food that they did not order. When they confront him, he becomes defensive and blames the kitchen for the mistakes.

The next day, the owners and Mystery Diners team confront Jon about their suspicions and the evidence they have gathered. Jon denies any wrongdoing and plays dumb, but when the team shows him the footage from Marci's hidden camera, he breaks down and admits to stealing from the bar. He also confesses to inviting his friends and family to the bar and giving them free food and drinks without the owner's consent.

The owners are disgusted by Jon's behavior and decide to terminate his employment on the spot. They are relieved to have the Mystery Diners team on their side and thank them for saving their business from further losses. The team departs, leaving Legends Sports Bar & Grill in a much better place than when they arrived.
