Ep 2. I Yam What I Yam

In Popeye the Sailor season 1 episode 2, titled "I Yam What I Yam," we find Popeye and his love interest, Olive Oyl, on a date at a carnival. Along with them is Popeye's archrival, Bluto, who is trying to sabotage their date.

The episode begins with Popeye and Olive Oyl enjoying a fun-filled date at the carnival, playing games and riding rides. Meanwhile, Bluto is watching them from afar, plotting his next move. As Popeye and Olive Oyl prepare to leave, Bluto sneaks up and steals Olive Oyl's candy.

Popeye confronts Bluto and a fight breaks out, in which Bluto initially gains the upper hand. However, Popeye eats a can of spinach, which gives him superhuman strength and he easily defeats Bluto.

Throughout the episode, the theme of Popeye's catchphrase "I yam what I yam" is emphasized. Popeye emphasizes that he is proud of who he is and doesn't try to be anyone else. This message is reinforced at the end of the episode when Popeye and Olive Oyl share a sweet moment and the episode ends with Popeye proclaiming, "I yam what I yam and that's all 'at I yam."
