Kouryuu agrees to assist the group in saving Goku but warns them that they must face their own fears and regrets within the lake. Reluctantly, Sanzo, Gojyo, and Hakkai jump into the water, each entering their own unique trials. Sanzo is confronted with visions of his troubled past and the guilt he carries from his previous life. Gojyo is forced to face the tragic events that led to his demon heritage, and Hakkai is haunted by the memories of a dark incident from his past.
