Saved by the Bell
- 9 Seasons
Saved by the Bell was an American sitcom aimed at children and teenagers that took a light hearted look at the lives of a group of teenagers as they passed through high school. The group of teenagers featured in Saved by the Bell completed a full academic year at Bayside High school in Los Angeles, California during each of the four seasons of the show. Running from 1989 to 1993 the original four seasons of Saved by the Bell have become cult classics despite receiving poor critical reviews at the time of their original airing. American TV network picked up Saved by the Bell after an original single season of the show called Good Morning, Miss Bliss was shown on the Disney Channel starring Hayley Mills. The focus of the show was moved from the teacher, Miss Bliss to the children in her class, the majority of whom stayed in the show after Good Morning, Miss Bliss was rebranded. Set in the Palisades, California Saved by the Bell follows the lives of a group of teenagers headed by Zack Morris, played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar and his on-off girlfriend Kelly Kapowski, played by Tiffani Thiessen. Throughout the four seasons of the show Zack uses the Shakesperean device of freezing time and addressing the audience directly to express his feelings about what is happening in the plot. The plotlines of Saved by the Bell are rarely serious, instead focusing on silly schemes and the love lives of the teenage stars. As each season focused on a single year at Bayside High School the series only ran for four seasons before a new version known as Saved by the Bell: The College Years. This spin-off followed some of the cast as they moved out of school and into their college education. The focus of the show remained firmly on the teenagers and the only member of the main cast playing a teacher appearing on a regular basis was Dennis Haskins as Mr. Belding.
